Beekeeping tools
It is liquid gold, ambrosia and a booster for a healthy immune system - honey is said to be many things and not without reason. No wonder beekeeping is popular among professionals and amateur beekeepers alike. Anyone interested in beekeeping and honey harvesting will find the most important tools for beekeeping in our agricultural supplies.
Essential beekeeper tools
In addition to a healthy bee colony, beekeepers need suitable housing for the animals. The so-called prey consists of empty boxes, into which frames are hung. The boxes are made of various materials such as wood or polystyrene (styrofoam). In the suspended frames, the bee colony creates honeycombs for the storage of food and the care of brood.
The most common hives in the bee supply are:
-
Magazine hive: This modular system consists of a base, individual stacked frames and a lid. It can be extended as required. The brood and honey rooms are divided among different frames. When observing and checking the bees, these frames are lifted from each other and checked individually.
-
Storage and trough hives: Unlike the magazine hive, the brood and honey chambers are located next to each other and are separated by dividers. This makes the care of the peoples a little easier on the back, but the transport and expansion of the hive is more difficult.
There are also hybrid forms that combine the advantages of different hives.
Bee Smokers
Regular control of bee colonies is an important part of beekeeping. However, any opening of the safe den is a potential threat to the animals, against which they may act aggressively. To avoid stings from the bees, the smoker is used. The handy metal can you equip with smoking material such as pellets, herbs, pine cones, bark or wood chips. Some models have a double bottom in which the smoked product can glow separately. The smoke produced during smoldering is used to appease the animals. The smoke simulates a forest fire. The bee colony starts a perfectly choreographed evacuation program: The bees move into the honey room to secure their stores and to be prepared for the escape or the move to a new dwelling. The filled honey stomach subsequently makes the bees so sluggish that they no longer sting.
Protective equipment from beekeeping supplies
If the bees do not calm down at all or if it is an aggressive colony, you can find beekeeper hats with veils and wide distance brim in the bee accessories. This provides the necessary distance between the bees and your face and neck area. Via rubber loops on the sides of the veil that you pull under your armpits, you get a bee-tight finish. Beekeeper veils are also available in combination with beekeeper blouses. The long-sleeved protective suits are made of breathable materials such as cotton and simplify the work with the bee colonies. If you want to protect your hands from stings and honey residue, you can also find gloves in beekeeping supplies. Here is recommended solid material such as leather, through which the bees cannot pierce.
The hive chisel as a universal tool in beekeeping
A hive chisel is part of the beekeeping supplies for the regular control of the bee colonies. The versatile tool is used to detach the individual magazines of the hives from each other, because during prolonged use the bees cement small openings in the housing with plugging wax. Using the angled side of the stick chisel, you can also carefully lift the frames in the hive. Use the sharp sides to effortlessly scrape waxy residue from your bee boxes.
The bee broom to gently sweep away the animals
What used to be the goose wing is now the bee broom. Use it to gently sweep the bees from the comb as needed. This is necessary exactly when there are so many bees on the honeycomb that the cells under them remain hidden and hinder control or honey harvest. The bees that remain on the honeycomb despite careful shaking off are gently pushed aside with the sweeping broom. When choosing the right bee broom, it is important to use soft bristles so that the animals remain unharmed when touched.
The honey sling and strainer
Honey harvesting is one of the highlights of beekeeping, along with the work in nature. Professionals and amateur beekeepers can harvest the valuable natural product thanks to mobile and easy-to-use beekeeping accessories. All you need for quick and convenient harvesting are jars, a bee slingshot and sieves.
The bee extractor consists of a large body with a honeycomb basket, into which you insert the frames from the honey room. Remember to open the cells sealed with wax beforehand. After closing the spinner, rotate the basket by hand crank. The centrifugal forces created by the rapid rotation reliably eject the honey from the combs. This collects at the bottom of the slingshot. The honey then flows into the next container via a drain cock. Tip: In the expondo Inspirations you can find out, among other things, what honey production business is possible. But you will also find a lot more info on agricultural topics.
To remove impurities such as wax residues, wood splinters or parts of dead bees from the honey, we recommend the use of our high-quality sieves. Thanks to double inserts, you can use them to catch coarse and fine dirt in one operation. Our screens have extendable side wings, thanks to which they can be used for different sizes of containers.
The honey extractors and sieves available at expondo are made of scratch-resistant and durable materials and have a long service life. In addition, the materials are food safe and therefore ideal for food processing. Whether for the professional or the hobby beekeeper, in our product range you will find the right beekeeping accessories at reasonable prices.
