For many, preparing a grilled steak may seem like a difficult task requiring a lot of skill. But the process is actually very simple – much easier than preparing multi-ingredient soups or other popular dishes. So why is it perceived as being tricky? Preparing the perfect grilled steak.

How to prepare grilled steak?

How should you grill steak in order to achieve succulent meat with the perfect texture? Although the process is not very complicated, many people still find it tricky – the grilled steak ends up too dry, rubbery, like a shoe sole. What should you pay attention to when preparing grilled steak? Which advice is worth following in order to prepare a delicious meal?

Marinating grilled steak

Meat prepared on a grill is often marinated beforehand – the longer the pieces of pork or other grilled meat stay in a mixture of oil and seasoning, the more flavour they will have. However, it is completely different in the case of grilled beef steaks – the marinade would unnecessarily cover the bouquet of flavours hidden in well-seasoned steaks. So instead of soaking the meat in marinade for hours, let’s have a look at how to season meat steaks.

Seasoning for grilled steaks

Seasoning your steak for grilling could not be easier! All you need is… salt! A common opinion is that salting meat for grilled steaks can result in them losing their moisture, but this is only the case if the steaks are seasoned well before being put on the grill. However, if you salt them just before grilling, you should achieve great results – the salt will help keep the meat juicy, and will also form a delicious, crispy crust on top.

During grilling, the steaks do not require any additional seasoning. However, they taste great when served with butter – and you can use whatever type of butter you want! Rosemary butter will perfectly suit grilled steak! You can also add a little bit of pepper.

What type of meat is best for grilled steaks?

With so many different ways to prepare steak, so you find it hard to choose the type of meat? Take a look at some popular suggestions and choose which one you want to try.

Grilled beef fillets

Grilled beef fillet steak is the perfect choice if you are looking for tender meat that will melt in your mouth. This is one of the finest types of steak, and should ideally be cut into 3-5 cm thick pieces. If you are a beginner and don’t have experience preparing beef steak, then start off with beef fillets, the most classic type of beef steak.

Grill ribeye steak

Ribeye steaks come from the rib portion of the cow. Due to the high amount of fat, it is considered perfect for making juicy and tender steaks. It is largely due to the fat, which conveys the flavour, that ribeye is considered the most tasty type of steak.

Grilled sirloin steak

Sirloin is another very tasty option, but slightly tougher than fillets and less juicy than ribeye Sirloin steaks are made from cuts of meat from the upper middle of the animal. It is therefore a working muscle, which explains its lower fat content and more compact structure. If you enjoy fatty meats, a grilled sirloin steak may turn out to be too lean.

Grilled veal steak

Veal is one of the healthiest meats – rich in protein and with a low fat content. Veal fillets are the perfect choice for a barbecue – more tender than beef fillets and full of minerals and vitamin B! To avoid the grilled veal steak becoming too dry, you can wrap slices of meat in bacon.

Pork tenderloin steak

Grilled steak fans with a more traditional view on the topic would generally not mix it with other types of meat. However, if beef is not your thing, then pork steaks could be a better option. In this case, however, you absolutely need to make sure the meat is properly cooked, otherwise it could be harmful to your health. A tender and juicy pork neck or shoulder steak can be a good alternative to traditional beef steaks.

Grilling steaks on an electric grill

Skewers, grilled burgers, and even steaks can also be prepared on an electric grill. This option can come in handy in restaurants, where a perfectly prepared grilled beef steak is often a popular choice on the menu. However, you won’t need a commercial grill to prepare your steaks at home – a good quality home grill will be more than enough..

Using an electric grill Beef steaks can be prepared relatively quickly – the most important point is to heat the hob or hobs very well, depending on whether you are using an open or closed grill. The grill’s design will also influence the time needed for preparing steaks – in a closed grill both sides of the meat are grilled at once, so you will only need half as much time.

Preparing steak on a gas or charcoal grill

When grilling steaks on a gas or charcoal grill, you can use both direct and indirect grilling methods. To do so, light the charcoal on one side of the chamber and leave the other side empty, and similarly – light the burners on only one side of a gas grill.

In such a situation, you can start by grilling directly, i.e. over hot coals or an open fire. Grill the steaks for two minutes on each side with the grill lid closed. Then turn the meat over and start indirect grilling and continue until the insides of the steaks reach the desired temperature – you can check this with a special spiked thermometer, which is one of the most useful grill accessories.

Catering equipment for grilling steaks

Preparing grilled steaks in restaurants requires particular attention, with no room for experimenting and mistakes. Each piece of meat should be perfectly cooked to ensure an unforgettable experience for your guests. So make sure you choose the right grilling equipment for your restaurant,

such as a gas steak oven with a temperature of up to 800°C! This will allow you to achieve results that would be impossible with an ordinary grill pan.
