The grease on the surface is a type of food-safe Vaseline that protects the grill plate from rust. Remove the grease with a wooden or plastic spatula, and then wipe the plate clean with a kitchen towel. If necessary, clean the surface carefully with a little dish soap and water.
The grill plate turns black or yellow due to the high temperatures. To prevent such stains, next time first apply oil and gradually increase the temperature. To remove the stains, carefully clean the grill plate with a dish soap and water. For black stains, apply a little vinegar to the affected area and leave it for 20 minutes. Then add a little baking soda and wait a further 15 minutes. Remove the stains with a scouring pad or fine sandpaper in the direction of the surface structure. Finally, clean the worktop with water and dry it thoroughly. Use little water so that it does not penetrate the device.
To prevent rust stains, avoid residues of water, acids (such as vinegar, lemon juice, sauces) or substances containing chlorine (such as bleach). Keep the grill plate clean and dry it after everyday use. Also apply some food-safe grease when not in use for longer periods. If rust still forms, soak the affected area with a little water. Then remove the rust with steel wool, a scouring pad or fine sandpaper. Always rub in the direction of the surface structure. Industrial descaling agents are also suitable for completely removing rust stains. After cleaning, neutralise any acid residues with an alkaline cleaning agent.
