Do you run a health and beauty salon? Are you a physiotherapist who visits patients? Or maybe you want to offer massages from your own home? Regardless of your intentions, you will need a professional massage table. Find out how to choose a massage table that will meet your expectations!
Manual and electric massage tables
An electric massage table or a manual massage bed? This is one of the first things to consider when looking for the perfect equipment for your business. The difference between the two types is huge – both in terms of functionality and price. Therefore, the decision will largely depend on your budget, but also on the type of business you intend to run. What makes an electric massage bed worth buying?
With an electronic massage table, you can adjust the height of the bed or the angle of the backrest at the press of a button. This is important for the elderly, disabled or people with back injuries, for whom it would be almost impossible to climb onto often quite high massage tables.
With manual massage tables it is also possible to adjust the height or the backrest, but it needs to be done before your customer lies down on the bed.
Portable, foldable and stationary massage beds
Even if you plan to open a stationary massage salon, you should still have a folding massage bed. This does not mean you will use it every day – in the salon you will use the electric massage table, but from time to time you might want to visit customers at home, and then the portable massage table will come in very handy. Visiting patients at home is quite popular, because for many customers, especially those with disabilities or injuries, coming to your salon could prove quite a challenge.
With a portable massage bed, pay attention to the weight. The lighter it is, the more it will cost, but it is worth the investment in this case. From time to time you might need to visit a patient who lives on a high floor in an apartment block without a lift – you will then highly appreciate spending a little more on a light, foldable massage table.
On the other hand, with stationary massage beds the weight is not so important – so if you buy a model with manual adjustment, it may turn out to be much cheaper than a portable massage bed. It will certainly be more stable and resistant.
2 and 3-section massage tables
How many sections the massage table has is also relevant. Depending on the design, you will be able to adjust each section separately, which in turn will increase your possibilities as a massage therapist and enhance the comfort of your patients.
The most popular models are 2-section massage tables, which let you adjust only the backrest. However, in the case of 3-section massage beds, you can also lower and raise the leg-resting section. In turn, 4-segment models are popular mainly in beauty salons, because they let you freely adjust the position of the upper body. For massages, however, 3-section tables work best.
Wooden and aluminium massage beds
The material that the massage bed is made of is important mainly in the case of portable models, which, as already mentioned, should be as light as possible, but at the same time durable enough to offer massages to people who are overweight or obese.
Wooden massage tables fulfill these requirements, as they are solid, light and create an extremely pleasant feel during treatments – their natural design has a soothing and relaxing effect on patients. Unfortunately, wooden massage beds are not always moisture-resistant, so if there is a risk that they will frequently be exposed to rain then it is better to go for the second option.
Aluminium massage tables also have many advantages – most importantly they are even 10% lighter than wooden models. This may not seem much, but you will certainly feel the difference if you have to carry them up long flights of stairs. In addition, aluminium massage beds are resistant to moisture, so you can safely use them even outdoors!
Other features of a good massage bed
Now that you know that a massage bed should be ultra-light, durable and adjustable in as wide a range as possible, find out what else makes professional massage tables stand out:
- A heated massage table – some electric models not only let you conveniently adjust the bed, but also offer heating – your patients will certainly love this feature!
- Face opening – to make spine massages a more comfortable experience for clients, their head should not be tilted or turned to the side. It is therefore important that they have an opening in the massage bed so that the patient can breathe and feel comfortable.
- A comfortable headrest – this is important so that your customers can comfortably lie on their back. Regulated ones will work best.
- The size of the massage bed – the larger it is, the more it will weigh. However, a smaller bed will offer a lower level of comfort. The most popular portable models have a width of approx. 60cm, while stationary tables are often more than 75cm wide.
- Foam and upholstery – the best tables have a thick foam layer, which make them more comfortable during long massage sessions. On the other hand, PU and PVC upholstery is used for the finishing, making the beds durable and easy to clean.
Which massage table should you choose – summary
As you can see, there are many different massage tables on the market, from which you can choose a model that best suits your individual preferences. However, remember that you should have different expectations when it comes to portable and stationary beds. We would recommend choosing massage tables from well-known manufacturers. Make sure that after buying it there will not be any problems with servicing, warranty and possible repair.
