What is a tower fan?

Fans are very popular devices, and come in different sizes and with different designs. One of the available types are tower fans. They have a very different design than standard fans and use a different method of cooling. Modern tower fans also have a number of additional functions.

Tower fans are tall and very narrow devices, which makes them perfectly match modern interior design. Their shape is similar to that of a home cinema speaker, so they can also serve as a decorative element. Tower fans have small blades, situated one above the other, which oscillate from left to right and push hot air outward They are different from air conditioners since they do not cool air, but just create air flow.

How does a tower fan work?

A tiny inlet at the side of the tower fan casing allows air to get drawn in. It blows out air at a 90-degree angle, which when combined with the height of the fan contributes to a wider coverage area in circulating the cool air.

Tower fans are also much quieter than standard fans, making them ideal in bedrooms. They are also an excellent solution for offices, as they do not distract or disturb people during work.

Advantages of using a tower fan

In addition to those previously mentioned, i.e. the modern design, quiet use and the possibility to remove dust, tower fans also have many additional advantages. One of them is a built-in thermometer with an LCD display, which lets you control the current temperature in the room. Another advantage is the remote control, letting you use the fan without getting up each time you want to change the settings.

Nowadays, most tower fans are also equipped with an ionizer, so you can simply push the ionizer button for air purification. The negative ions generated effectively remove fungi, allergens and bacteria. This significantly improves the quality of the air around the fan.

Another advantage is the built-in air dehumidifier, and models equipped with this function are therefore beneficial for your well-being. Too dry air in the room can make breathing difficult and is bad for your skin. These types of fans do not need any replaceable filters, making them very easy to look after. Tower fans are also very user friendly.

Tower fans vs. air coolers

Tower fans are very often confused with air conditioners. The difference between these two types of fans is in how they work. Unlike tower fans, air coolers use water to cool the air. Warm air passes through moist material and is then released into the room, but at a much lower temperature. Air conditioners also have an air dehumidifier.

They work best in spaces up to 30 sqm, and can lower the temperature by about 4 degrees Celsius. Some air coolers use ice cubes or cooling cartridges for tourist refrigerators. What is important, their energy consumption is low and they do not release freon into the atmosphere, making them environmentally-friendly devices.

Which tower fan should you choose?

When considering the purchase of a tower fan, you should pay attention first of all to the basic parameters, so it’s worth checking the power and efficiency level of the model you have chosen before purchasing it. You can usually find fans with between 40 and 70W. The greater the power, the more efficient the cooling process, and fans with more power also usually have a longer service life.

When comparing fans, check if the tower fan you have chosen has a speed regulation function. This is an important function as it allows you to set the power of the airflow pushed out by the blades. It is also worth making sure that the fan has an oscillation function, letting you distribute the air evenly throughout the room at a 90-degree angle This function is useful if you intend to use the tower fan in a room with a larger number of people.

You should also check the sound level of the fan during use. The noise level can be a big distraction factor, so it is best to choose a model with this parameter set at a value below 60 dB. You can then feel comfortable about using it during your sleep, at work or when you have guests.

Tower fans in restaurants

Ventilation is a key issue in restaurants, and there are specific legal requirements on this issue. However, additionally using a tower fan can also be a good idea in this case.

They work well in spaces with lots of people, making it much more pleasant during hot weather. Their attractive design means they can also be used as decorative elements of your interior design.

Tower fans in cleaning companies

The situation is slightly different in the case of cleaning companies. Tower fans are perfect for removing dust particles, which is why they are sometimes used for this purpose in this industry. Cleaning companies will usually use models additionally equipped with an air ionization function, which lets you neutralise fungal bacteria and other microorganisms on a regular basis.

Summary

Fans have been used for many years to help us cool down on hot days. In addition to the usual offer of standard fans, available in different sizes and colours and made of various materials, tower fans have a more sophisticated design and offer various additional functions. The ionization and air dehumidification options are especially useful in the case of allergy sufferers.
